Apna Desh is an initiative inspired by the tremendous amount of work done by Bharat Lal Meena, an IAS officer of mettle, in the rural areas of Karnataka, often scripting innovations that went on to become milestones, for brilliant replications. It believes in the dictum, that, ‘…We can be the generation that no longer accepts that an accident of latitude determines whether a child lives or dies – but, will we be that generation? Will the affording milieu realise their potentials or will they live immune in the comfort of their affluence with apathy and indifference murmuring softly into ears? Thousands of people are dying needlessly everyday of various reasons, the common pathology, however, being ‘poverty’. Mothers, fathers, children et al. Till we are confronted with some news in the media it does not constitute an emergency for us – that is our crisis.
Bharat Lal, son of a poor farmer in Rajasthan, set out armed with an IAS accomplishment, to try changing the destiny of the millions in India, whose dawn of life has actually been eluding them. He is a restless crusader who has inspired several youngsters to toil for the underprivileged and bring a change in their lives. For him, the catastrophe of more than two million of infant mortality each year has been very hard to live with. He dreams of an India where education, healthcare, shelter and comprehensive social security is available to each individual so that the human potentials can be best realized by them. He does not only dream, but, actually works on that – on the ground! That is what makes him a quintessential catalyst, or call him a paradigm-setter in the area of poverty-alleviation. Life and Peace expresses the mind of Meena on what he considers peace, in essence, constitutes; and what life actually is for, and what it beckons.
